Network Meeting of Extractive Industry Social Environmental Impact (EISEI)

NTFP staff from Ratanakiri province, including one member of Mine Focal Person, and one field staff from Preah Vihear province, joined EISEI network meeting at Diakonia building in Phnom Penh on 10th Oct 2017. The representatives from Ministry of Mine and Energy and Ministry of Environment (MoE) were invited to share the procedures of mining exploration licensing. The official from MoE shared about the monitoring mechanism on environment posed impact by mining companies. Mr. Mam Sambath, the DPA Executive Director had shared the current progress of laws and polices in relation with extractive industry sector, including Environmental Code, Guidelines of FPIC to be amalgamated in the Mining and Energy Law, and Law on Oil etc. He also had shared about the white sand (Silica), which is used for making Smarthphone, TV screen and esp the airplane screen. Now, these silica area of land are exploiting under private land proprietors’ form.

The community’s representatives from Ratanakiri, Mondul Kiri, Preah Vihear, and Battambang participated this important event. They actively joined to comment the checklist on EIA’s report.
