Flood at Kok Lak commune, Vernsai district of Ratanakiri Province Cambodia
Reported directly from the chief of Kok Lak commune in Oct 16th 2009. Kok Lak commune was flooded 2 times in 2009, first from 2nd to 4th Aug 09 and second flood was in Sept 27th to Oct 4th 2009. The whole communities adversely affected.
There are 4 villages in Kok Lak where the Kawet ethnic living, there are 339 families with total 2,922 (956 females). There are 74 families are widow and there 25 families with children’s age under 2 years old. This statistics collected only from 2 villages whereas the other two are being collected. Below are the damage information of 2 villages.

1. Lalay village:
23 households with 143 population, which seriously affected and completely damaged, and are being famine:
- Rice on paddy field: 41.5 hectares;
- Rice in ban: 360 Kg;
- 5 water buffalo;
- 42 pigs;
- 158 chickens;
2- Lameuy village
60 households with 415 population, which seriously affected and completely damaged, and are being famine. - Rice on paddy field: 122.5 hectares; - Rice in ban: 486 Kg; - 2 water buffalo; - 101 pigs; - 353 chickens; An old women said in a very sad face “ This year I don’t have any thing to eat. Go to dig wild yams and bulb to eat” An elder men who wore a short said “ Now even the wild yam is not abundant as previously, it was damaged because of water too. While the first flood destroyed rice, I expected the rice production next time, but now all are damage. No seeds as well, what to do? “
